Fatherheart of God - Week 5 Summary

The fifth week of lectures is on the Father-heart of God. We really delved into the character of God, specifically his Father aspect. Our speaker uses an image of a box with the word Truth written on it. We keep the ideas that we count a truth in this box, but sometimes, deceptions sneak into this box, but we count them as part of the truths we believe. It is nearly impossible to tell the two apart while they are in the box. This week was spent on digging through our Truth Boxes and finding out what we believed about God, and what was truth and deception.

God created us for relationship. That is it. To suggest that he created us for any other reason would imply that God was not complete before we come, that he lacked something.  God doesn’t need anything from us. He doesn’t require our prayers or songs to exist or have power. God is perfect. The Trinity is the only example of a perfect relationship. It was, and still is, so perfect that God wanted to have more relationship. So God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. That is why I was created. God wants more of that perfect relationship that he already has with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I love the simplicity of this. There is no pressure to fill out a “Things We Need To Do For God” checklist; and it removes the fear of not completing the list.

Jesus came to earth for one purpose, to pay the penalty of sin, which is death, so that we might live. What this ultimate sacrifice has brought forth, is truly fantastic. Jesus has bridged the great divide that is our sinful nature, which allows us to come to God to build relationship. Jesus came to earth to remove the divide that formed after the Fall in the Garden of Eden. Jesus has bridged the gap between God and humanity so that we can once again walk with God and have relationship. Jesus came to restore us to our first standing with the Trinity; he came to bring us back into the family.

When God looks at me, he sees a unique creation. Someone he bought at the highest possible price, every drop of Jesus’ blood. That make me valuable beyond any comparison. God doesn’t see a sinner, someone who is a great big screw-up, he sees a perfect creation, cleansed of all sins by the blood of Christ. He sees someone, with whom he desires to have relationship with.  He sees me as an individual, not one person amongst seven billion. God loves me as a father loves his children, his love may look different, but each child receives all his love, it is not divided nor diminished for each individual.
